The Two General Kinds of Gambling Games

Strategy based games are games in which luck is still an aspect, but winning the game relies more on strategy rather than luck. Examples of these are poker, backgammon, and to some extent, blackjack. While strategy based gambling games do employ luck as part of its nature - as for example, the dice roll in backgammon - winning is less dependent on the luck factor, and more on employing the proper strategy.

This means that even if one does not have a large bankroll, one could still have a chance of winning in a strategy based gambling game given that one has sufficient skill. For example, hand strength may determine winning in a round in poker, but that is if the round proceeds to a showdown. Because one could use trick plays like bluffing, then a good hand isn't really needed to win the game.
